Not only is Nisbet Old Schoolhouse ideal for a fishing holiday (more information here) the large Schoolroom and spacious cottage offers a great base for family or group get-togethers and even crafting retreats. Provided for you at the Schoolhouse are a selection of books and games.
The Scottish Borders is also packed full of places to go and activities to do! Below you will find a list of just a few favourites. The Schoolhouse is stocked with leaflets and further information on the surrounding area.
There are many local attractions to visit in the surrounding area including historic houses, castles, goals, abbeys and many more. For fantastic views over the Borders, visit the Lothian Estates Office (01835 862201) and for a small fee pick up the key for Penielheugh tower. The walk to the tower itself is fantastic and the views from the top are not to be missed!
There are mini-festivals in several towns and an annual week long Borders Walking Festival in September. As well as long distance paths like the Southern Uplands Way and St Cuthbert's Way there are many way marked routes across the region.
The Borderloop and Four Abbeys Cycle Route have printed trail guides and there are hundreds of miles of quiet country roads to explore.
Well, it's heaven really, for bikers at all levels! World Class downhills at Innerleithen, 7Stanes trails at Glentress and Newcastleton as well as easy access across to Dumfriesshire to try the other Stanes sites. And lots of trails in the local forests (maps available) and wild riding too.

Border Union Agricultural Society
Founded in 1813 the BUAS is most famous for hosting the annual Border Union Show. Held every year at Springwood Park, Kelso on the last weekend in July it is a great family day out. Throughout the year BUAS also hold may other events at the showground. From dog shows to a motorbike rally there really is something for everyone. Borders Common Ridings
The annual Common Ridings attract people from all over the world to the Scottish Borders and are an inescapable part of the Borders' culture. These unique, spectacular riding festivals are steeped in tradition and are an amazing spectacle to see. Hundreds of riders dressed in their finest, following their elected leader, ride their town's boundaries checking the lands. Click here to learn more.
